Malin Uhlén
May 29 – July 3 2025
The ceramist from Gothenburg who embraces mistakes and lets defects become an aesthetic part of the work.
Malin Uhlén, an artist from Gothenburg with her roots in Värmland, holds a master’s degree in ceramic art from Konstfack (University of arts, crafts and design). Her artistic journey began at Capellagården’s school for creative work, during a summer course in ceramics, where she discovered her passion for the material. Over the years, she has learned to embrace mistakes as a natural part of the creative process and has developed an artistic practice that combines traditional ceramic techniques with experimental methods.
Uhlén works with sculptures that capture moments of movement and transformation. By allowing the clay to collapse, break down and rebuild, she creates expressions that reflect stages of change. Her work carries a fascination for imperfection, where every defect becomes part of the artwork and its unique aesthetics.
Uhlén has received several scholarships during her artistic career and last year one of her sculptures was purchased by the Swedish National Council for the Arts.
In her exhibition at Gamla Kraftstationen, Uhlén presents sculptures in porcelain, black clay, ceramic ware and steel, displaying expressions of frozen movement.
