Maria Meissner Berg

May 29 – September 28 2025

Maria Meissner Berg from Ystad is a trained archaeologist and teacher who has much experience in working with museum education and history communication. When she moved from Småland to Skåne as an adult, she discovered the ground pieces of glass lying on the beaches. Meissner Berg had never seen sea glass before and immediately felt that she wanted to make something from it. This was the origin of her company Havsglas Sverige (Sea Glass Sweden), which is now Eco-labelled by Ystad Municipality/Waste Sweden since ten years. Her inspiration thus comes from the sea and her passion for history, and with her work she wants to draw attention to the littering of the Baltic Sea in a different way, with something beautiful.

Meissner Berg says that Havsglas are like inverted gemstones, they have been created by humans and refined by the sea. It is something that never ceases to fascinate her. She loves that the glass carries an unknown history that she gets to be a part of and continue writing, while simultaneously making an effort for the environment and the polluted Baltic Sea.

Experience Meissner Berg’s unique jewelry made of sea-cut glass and genuine silver in a context that shows the ocean’s ability to transform our trash into beautiful treasures. All the glass in the jewelry is completely untreated and collected on the beaches of Skåne by the jewelry artist herself.

Havsglas Sverige has been selected by the Formex fair in Stockholm as one of Sweden’s ”Young Designers” three times. Havsglas jewelry has been worn by, among others, Crown Princess Victoria, adventurer Annelie Pompe and model Ingmari Lamy.
