The experimental ceramic artist from Karlstad who celebrates perfect imperfections.
Kattis Axelsson from Karlstad has created art in various materials since she was a child. From textiles and glass to porcelain and clay, she has constantly explored texture, structure, color and form. These elements have gone hand in hand with Axelsson’s creative work as a hairdresser. Clay captured Axelsson early on and around thirty years ago she began working with the material seriously. Over the years she has participated in several courses and playfully and happily experiments with techniques, expressions and glazes. Axelsson finds imperfections more interesting than polished surfaces and she both loves and celebrates what she calls “perfect imperfection”, which is also her way of seeing life. This makes her works full of life, excitement and personal expressiveness.
For Axelsson, creation is more than just a craft – it is a way of living and breathing. She is deeply grateful for artistic expression. Without it, she feels empty. She also runs her own hair salon and ceramics shop in Karlstad.
