DANIEL ENGSTRÖM – the artist from Forshaga who is rich in imagination and who loves the feeling of disappearing into the artistic flow.
Daniel Engström from Forshaga has always been close to creativity. In different ways and in different periods, he has practised variations on his artistry. In his youth, writing and musical performance dominated. Later he devoted himself to glass engraving and sandblasting/deep blasting of thick plane glass. Painting is a relatively new path for Daniel, who says that painting came to him a few years ago when he was going through a really difficult period in his life. In the creative process of painting, he found a respite.
”The common denominators in all my creations are that I teach myself, and that I love the feeling of being devoured into what I do. Time and space disappear and I am in my own flow.”
Daniel says that he has a vivid imagination and that there is always a thought, a feeling, an image, a text or a melody going on in his mind, and that is strongly connected to creation. Daniel also gets a lot of great inspiration from large open spaces in nature. He has a preference for coastal views with overcast weather, but even a rusty container or a dead tree in the forest can spur creative thoughts and feelings.
Daniel paints in acrylic, but traces of sand, putty, wall paint and impact metals may appear. ”I am often drawn to imperfect and slightly messy abstract landscapes, but I want there to be a light and a calmness over it. I hope I’m able to convey that to you who visit the exhibition.”
As the initiator of Art for ALS Awareness, Daniel received a lot of attention between 2021-2023. Thereby selling his paintings and donating the proceeds to ALS disease research.
Exhibition period May 1st – July 21
