ANN ARDEBRANT – the glass artist from Skattkärr (outside of Karlstad) who is inspired by Värmland’s nature and has a fondness for water, ice and the forests.
Ann Ardebrant began her professional life with an education as a geoscientist, but since childhood she has enjoyed trying needlecraft of various kinds. Twenty years ago she tried silversmithing and has since immersed herself in a variety of artistic education. About ten years ago, jewellery making became a little more serious, and when Ann came into contact with glass, she was hooked. The play of colours, lustre and malleability of glass as material fascinated her and its properties made it possible to give each piece of jewellery a very special and personal touch. At the same time as Ann worked with silver, she now discovered how she could make her own glass beads, and she started blowing glass on a small scale and making glass bubbles as a starting point for new jewellery. New lessons at the glassblower’s flame and courses with international lampworking artists gave Ann the knowledge she needed to use the technique and move forward with glass art.
Over the years, Ann has had courses in silversmithing as well as glass fusing and lampworking, and today she has her studio at home by Vänern, just outside Skattkärr in Värmland. In the studio, she designs and makes jewellery with nature as both a neighbour and a source of inspiration. Ann and her husband are avid outdoorsmen, sailing in the summer and cross-country skiing in the winter. In addition, they spend a lot of time in forests and fields. Nature helps to set the mind free, says Ann, who is inspired by the various elements and shapes of nature.
At the Gamla Kraftstationen, Ann shows glass jewellery in three series that are all inspired by our beautiful Värmland. The series are called Isarna (The Ice), Trädstammarna (The Tree Trunks) and Stenarna (The Stones).
