Eija I. Korhonen

1 maj – 27 maj 2025

Eija I. Korhonen from Gothenburg and Helsinki believes that she was born an artist in a way, since her need to investigate, create and convey and give physical expression to different phenomena, feelings and things has always been intense. Korhonen has no formal art education but has had her own art school where she has taught for forty years in many forms of expression.

Korhonen says that as an artist, former art teacher, alumnus and doctoral student at the University of Gothenburg and author of scientifically based books about people, poetry and children’s picture books, she explores a variety of artistic expressions. Diversity is for Korhonen a cornerstone, not only in her creative work, but in life as a whole.

Korhonen describes herself as inspired by life as a fascinating phenomenon – although not always aesthetically pleasing, and also by the multifaceted human being who she believes is a strange creature both for good and for bad.

In her exhibition, Korhonen shows works from the Defenders series, which are inspired by the UN Declaration of Human Rights. The Defenders series sheds light on issues of fundamental values by highlighting women who have made significant contributions to their society.
