FABIAN WIPPERT – the designer from Olsäter and Germany who paints and carves magic and excitement with his unique gilded Golden Whales.
FABIAN WIPPERT was born and raised in Germany but has been living in Olsäter, Värmland since last year. Fabian has been working as a graphic designer for more than 20 years. HIs love for wood and nature as well as graphics are combined in his sculptures, which form the ingredients of the art that Fabian shows in this exhibition.
Fabian has been fascinated by whales since childhood and his wooden sculptures have evolved over the years from simple mythical creatures to a more concrete form associated with whales after he learned to carve. The material is driftwood found by the water or fallen branches and wood from the forest. The form and character often develop in the working process. The combination of the natural material wood, the black abstract ornaments on a white background and gold colour on the one hand creates harmony, but on the other hand it creates tension – through contrasts between materials, colour, simplicity and complexity.
Fabian says:; ”Both the use of wood and ornamentation in art go back thousands of years. Wood is probably one of the oldest materials used in the creation of art. Ornaments can be found in all eras and cultures. Gold brings preciousness as well as something magical and fascinating to art.”
Let your imagination be caressed by the soft shapes of Fabian’s wooden sculptures, which have been named Guldvalen (the Golden Whale).
