GUNNAR LIDÉN – the artist from Karlstad who combines colours, which evokes strong emotions and creates musical sounds.
Gunnar Lidén lives in Karlstad but was born in Årjäng in the north western parts of Värmland. As a child, Gunnar learned to like colour and form in the studio of his father, who was an artist and taught him the basics of painting. Gunnar is educated at Gerlesborgsskolan and has always had painting and drawing as a craft alongside his work as a priest in the Swedish Church.
Gunnar is inspired by places and people in new environments. He says: ”For me, colours are a language that evokes strong emotions. Combinations of certain colours create sounds reminiscent of music. I am also inspired by the work itself when the hand and eye try their way and discover something that touches me.”
Gunnar is an artist on several levels and, as an example of his versatility, has published an award-winning children’s book in which the family’s dogs play the main roles.
The works that Gunnar shows in his exhibition at Gamla Kraftstationen have been given the theme ”Uppströms” (Upstream). He follows the river Klarälven upstream , from Vänersborg via Lurö to Karlstad and all the way up through Värmland. The pictures are accompanied by poems that stop at the River’s many characteristics. ”Uppströms” is an external journey but also an internal journey from adulthood to adolescence and childhood. His technique is based on watercolours that he has processed and printed into larger images.
As a viewer, you can expect an interesting journey of discovery among Gunnar’s detailed works.
Exhibition period July 27 – September 29
