HÅKAN ENGMALM – the musical watercolourist from Deje who shows his mood through brush strokes.
Håkan Engmalm, one of our closest artists this year, lives here in Deje. He is the all-round artist who was most certainly born with creativity in his blood.
Music and painting are faithful companions, even though painting has recently taken an increasingly large place in Håkan’s life. Music and singing are close to Håkan’s heart, and many are the people who have listened to him in churches, at lodges, at preschools, and many more. He is also involved in the area’s Accordion players and in the blues band Blood Prezzure Boys. His driving force is also shown in the Deje Folketshusförening, the village’s hostel and in the assignment as civil wedding officiant, to just mention a few of the strings to his bow.
Håkan is part of Gamla Kraftstationen’s initiative Artists in action and is seen from time to time in the studios with his own work or as a leader and inspirer in watercolour painting.
Håkan mostly paints in watercolour and sometimes also in oil. He likes to work with light and water as important parts of the creative process. Life, travels, interesting places and contexts inspire Håkan. Sometimes thoughtful or humorous subtleties sneak in and give the work another dimension. His motifs are nature motifs as well as urban motifs, often people, movement and moods are seen in his paintings.
