The textile designer and craftswoman from Snårstad who invites you to her creative world of patterns and stitches.
Helena Bengtsson is a textile designer and craftswoman from Snårstad, located a few kilometers north of Karlstad. Here she has created her creative workplace in the old hen house on the family farm, where her artistic journey also once began. Already as a young woman, Bengtsson showed a strong interest in artistic creation, but the path to textile design was not obvious. She started with singing and dancing before her passion for drawing and sewing took over. With a long series of education behind her, she completed her formal education with a master’s degree in textile design.
Bengtsson draws inspiration from both the wonders of nature and the sudden ”aha experiences” of everyday life, as well as from beautiful materials, fine tools and clever techniques. She is inspired by skilled masters from all corners of world history and by the strips that remain when she cuts textile.
Bengtsson has been given several awards for her work and has a long list of prestigious scholarships on both regional and national level. In her exhibition at Gamla Kraftstationen, visitors are invited to Bengtsson’s world of patterns and stitches. Here, a mix of screen, block and linoleum prints is presented together with free technique in both paper and textile.
