KILA DESIGN, CECILIA CLAESSON – the jewelry artist from Horred who gives new life to vintage porcelain, showing joy and positive nostalgia.

Cecilia Claesson from Horred in Västergötland says that creative pursuits have always been close to her heart. When her children were young, she was at home with them for many years and then had time and space to devote herself to what she liked most; to create. Her education consists of a two-year aesthetic education at Helsjöns Folkhögskola.

Over the years, she has devoted herself to painting, photographing, turning and sculpting in clay, knitting, crocheting and sewing. In 1996, she came up with the idea of making jewellery from retro porcelain. She learned the technique on her own. Among coffee cups and saucers from the past, Cecilia became stuck and the business took off after participating in a long series of craft fairs. For several years, Cecilia’s jewellery was sold at Designtorget (a renowned home style boutique in Sweden)  and in many other stores around the world. Cecilia’s jewellery has also been noticed in a number of magazines such as Gourmet, Elle Interiör, ICA-kuriren, Sköna hem and Living.

Cecilia has a great creative joy. When she gets a creative idea, she likes to implement it immediately.  She says; ”I am very inspired by patterns on porcelain, especially if I find some new decor that I have never seen before. It is a fun challenge to find the perfect cut for that particular pattern for a particular piece of jewellery. Beautiful, colourful textile prints are often what I combine with my jewellery. Where colour and shape together elevate the jewellery. ”

Cecilia hopes that you who visit her exhibition will experience joy, recognition and positive nostalgia, but also that you will be attracted by the design language and craftsmanship.
