KLARA KNUTSSON— The furniture maker from Nacka, who with emotional nuances carves life into a forgotten art form.
Klara Knutson from Nacka close to Stockholm is an artisan and works in intarsia technique. Klara is a trained cabinetmaker and received her Journeyman Certificate in the cabinetmaking profession in 2021. During the training at Malmsten’s school of furniture design, she learned the basics of intarsia and was instantly fascinated. Through intarsia, she combines her two great interests; woodcraft and visual arts. Today, Klara works with intarsia full time. ”Through my business, I want to contribute to increasing interest in this forgotten art form,” says Klara, who has already received several prestigious awards in the field of art and craft.
Klara describes that her work explores different themes, sometimes through motifs that are found within the intarsia tradition, such as botanical and nature-inspired motifs. Sometimes she explores more abstract ideas. Her inspiration comes from the material and the technique itself and she always tries to use what is unique about intarsia technique.
In our exhibition, Klara immerses herself in the pictures and combines different types of wood to create a diversity of colour tones, textures and patterns. In the last year, shadows and light have permeated her work. ”Each piece of wood is like a piece of a puzzle that I carefully choose and place to get the right feeling and expression”.
Exhibition period June 29 – July 24
