LENNART NILSSON – the nature surrealist from Hyltebruk who gives the viewer subtle illusion painting with a twist.
Lennart Nilsson grew up and works in Hyltebruk in Halland. As a young man, Lennart worked in his father’s workshop-sheet metal shop, which he was supposed to take over. His spare time interests were motorcycles and cars, and later he also started painting in oil in the evenings.
”When I discovered Salvador Dalì’s surrealist paintings, I instantly fell in love, being able to paint in that way between dream and reality appealed to me,” says Lennart, who began to paint more and more, took evening classes in oil painting and eventually began exhibiting. In 1983 he had his first solo exhibition and since the end of the 80s he has been able to work as an artist full time. Lennart is self-taught.
On his CV, Lennart has numerous exhibitions in different countries and he is represented through the Swedish Arts Council (Statens Konstråd) in most municipalities and regions in Sweden. He also leads courses in oil painting.
Most often Lennart works with oil on canvas, but he has also designed glass, and made public decorations in both bronze and wood. His paintings have always had a kind of subtlety, often with a trompe l’oeil effect. Trompe l`oeil is a three-dimensional illusion painting that was already used in ancient times. Lennart mixes still life and nature painting in his pictures.
During the exhibition at Gamla Kraftstationen, you will experience Lennart’s characteristic illusion painting with elements of both feeling of wow and humour. In addition, Lennart shows a number of small colorful glass sculptures.
Exhibition period: May 1st – July 21
